Greece

Apr. 13, 2009

So Cam & Lauren got here Tuesday. We went out to eat at La Congrega for dinner, and they lovved it!! We went out to Bigallo and Twice after and then went to the secret bakery around 4:30. The next day we got up around noon and then had lunch at Oil Shoppe and got gelato at Vivoli's which is the best gelato everrr. They have dark chocolate with candied orange pieces, mmm! Then we did a little tour of the city and that night went out to dinner at Nuti for pizza. We had to be at the bus to Greece at 10am so we grabbed bagels and coffee on the way. They played movies on the bus and we got dropped off at our cruise ship which was actually pretty nice. We paid for a cabin, luckily, because it's an overnight cruise and people who didn't were just sleeping on the floor. We grabbed drinks at the bar and then went to dinner at the restaurant on board. They served such good Greek food, and it was the first time I tried tzatziki, which I loved! But we had the worst wine I've ever had in my life, I don't know what it was but I think it was greek and we could hardly drink it. We went back to the room and like 14 year olds played never have I ever, which was hysterical.

We woke up to a woman saying in a million languages that the boat was arriving at Igoumenitsa at 7am. From there we took a ferry to Corfu. Our hotel on Corfu, the Pink Palace, was in a town called Agios Gordios and it was literally bright pink! We had a room with a really nice view again of the water and the town. It was a little cloudy when we got there so we decided to rent ATV's and drive around the island. It was soo fun and we found a really cute little town and a pretty cemetary. We got a snack at a cafe in one town. All the people there were so friendly and waved and smiled as we went by, especially the kids. Something so nice about Greece, and Italy really, is how connected they are to the world but at the same they seem so unphased and untouched by it. Everyone seems to be happy, relaxed and enjoying life. After the ATV's we showered and got dressed for dinner at the Palladium which was included in our hotel. I wasn't expecting much but they gave us a huge dinner. We had roast chicken with vegetables, potatoes, salad, soup, and bread. We had these really good drinks called Pink Palace Coladas which were basically unfrozen pina coladas with strawberry flavor and some milk added. Then we moved downstairs where the club was. We danced and it was actually a decent size party but after a while they started playing bad songs and they never recovered so we left. The next morning everyone psychotically decided to sign up for the booze cruise at 6am so we didn't even bother trying. Instead we slept in and went to breakfast down by the beach where they cooked us fried eggs. Then we got beach chairs and laid out. We went to lunch by the water and they had amazing greek salad and such fresh fried pita bread with tzatziki, im officially a HUGE greek salad fan! We laid out for the rest of the afternoon and then picked up our togas (aka pink silk sheets) for the toga party. We went back and got ready, trying to figure out how to make togas. We ended up all making them totally different because none of us could remember how we did ours and/or they didn't fit everyone the same but they all came out cute and with only one safetypin each! We went to dinner in our togas and then went downstairs. They were supposed to have plate smashing and other greek events but we ended up staying for an hour so and going back to our room because we wanted to go ATVing again in the am. The next morning we got our 4 wheelers and left to find a private beach. We found one called Pelekas that was up and down a bunch of steep hills but it was a resort beach and it was really nice. There was a brand new cafe there that overlooked the beach so we got cappuccinos and then went down to the water. It was so nice to lay out there on a quiet, sand beach and we could see the boozecruise parked off in the distance for cliffjumping. After a couple of hours we had to drive back to the hotel for the trip back home.. It was a nice trip even though it was pretty disorganized. As were about to leave Camila realized her camera was gone and she thought she left it at the beach. Luckily a guy at the hotel offered to drive us to the beach and then to the cruiseship so we went with him but had no luck finding the camera. He was funny though, half way there he pulled out a bag of weed and just started smoking and telling us how in Greece it was no problem (but for some odd reason he also had a serious stick up his ass about the police so I don't know what his deal was.) So that was fun and when we got back to the cruise it was just about to leave.. perfect timing!
