We were up yesterday morning for a 6am bus to Milan. We had a tour of Il Castello, an ancient fort that knights and dukes used
to hide in during battles. Then we went down the high fashion shopping street which had every designer store imaginable on it. The street was beautiful and the paparazzi were out and about apparently after Danny DeVito and his wife. We broke off from the tour for lunch because we were starving. We went to this great cafe on the second story of a building which overlooked the shopping area. I had a really good chicken salad sandwich. We sat right near the kitchen so the chef kept sending us samples of this creamy chicken and barley soup that was amazing! Then we went shopping. There wasn't really much else to Milan but shopping, which was kind of disappointing. The Duomo there is really pretty, but aside from that it's lacking. In the early evening we got back on the bus for 2 hours to Verona, h
ome of Romeo and Juliet. Our hotel there was okay, it was more like a hostel and the food there was terrible, but it was all free so I can't complain! We all went to the hotel bar after dinner which was actually really busy. We just got red wine and the went back to our rooms and passed out (well kind of, the rooster outside our window seemed to think the sun rose at 2am.) I had a really good kiwi this morning and then got on the bus to Venice. It was a 2 hour ride to the port for our ferry. It was pretty chilly when we got there so to get out of the cold we did a little more shopping. I bought a pink and gold carnival mask since everyone everywhere was wearing masks or costumes. The city was absolutely packed with people but it was SO beautiful! It was
very surreal to be there. St. Marc's Square was full of performers including a, aerial Cirque du Soleil show. We all went to a nice restaurant for lunch and then hired 2 gondolas to take us around for an hour. It was hard to believe I was really in a gondola in the canals of Venice, I felt more like I was at Disney World or Caesars Palace or something. After the ride we spent time walking around, shopping, snacking and looking at things before getting back on the bus for the ride to Florence.
